FOX 21, Townsquare Media announce broadcast partnership

“Our top goals are being local, and that’s a mutual goal. We’re bringing you the information you need from International Falls to Grand Portage, from the North Shore and South Shore, from the Twin Ports to the U.P.” -- FOX 21 News Director Matt McConico

Starting today, FOX 21 Local News updates will be broadcast on Townsquare Media’s Northland radio stations, including MIX 108, B105, KOOL 101.7, 92.1 Sasquatch and The Northland FAN 106.5 FM and 560 AM.

FOX 21 anchors and reporters Dan Hanger, Maria Vollom, Rusty Mehlberg, Neil Vierzba, Isaiah Wiita, James McCallister and meteorologist Karl Spring will deliver local news, weather and sports across the stations.

“I’m really excited to partner with such well-known radio stations and many of the DJs I used to work with more than 15 years ago,” Hanger said. “The vibe and audiences of Mix, B105, KOOL 101.7 and the rest of the stations are a perfect fit with the type of viewers who watch FOX 21 Local News. We inform, entertain and keep it real.”

The partnership will also include Sunday night segments on FOX 21’s 9 p.m. newscast, highlighting community events promoted by MIX 108 and B105.

Townsquare Regional Vice President Mary Niemeyer said the collaboration is a “win for listeners and our community.”

“By bringing FOX 21’s trusted news, weather and sports coverage to our Townsquare radio stations, we’re able to deliver even more of what matters most to the Northland,” Niemeyer said. “Together, we’re strengthening the connection between our audience and the local information they rely on every day.”

Ken Hayes, Townsquare’s director of content, called the move a natural extension of local broadcasting.

“Dan and I started in broadcasting around the same time 20 years ago,” Hayes said. “So much has changed in the world, but one constant remains — connecting and engaging with the local audience. Whether on air, online, social media or through our growing app presence, our goals align with FOX 21 perfectly.”

FOX 21 News Director Matt McConico said the partnership reflects a shared mission.

“Our top goals are being local, and that’s a mutual goal,” McConico said. “We’re bringing you the information you need from International Falls to Grand Portage, from the North Shore and South Shore, from the Twin Ports to the U.P.”

FOX 21 news and weather updates will air weekday mornings on Townsquare’s stations. Sports updates will run on The Northland FAN, 92.1 Sasquatch and KOOL 101.7.
