Hunters toy with Duluth East in the rain and wind, improve to 4-0

Duluth's Team, Class 4A No. 10-ranked Duluth Denfeld, pounded Duluth East 27-14 in a Northeast Red high school football game before a standing-room-only crowd Friday night at Ordean Stadium.

The Hunters led 20-0 at the half, thanks in part to an 80-yard running touchdown by ultra-elite junior halfback Taye Manns – the DuluthTimes.com's 2023 Preseason Player of the Year pick – in the first quarter.

Manns finished with two rushing touchdowns, and 187 yards on 10 carries.

"It was a tough win against our rivals," Duluth Denfeld coach Erik Lofald said afterwards. "We had some explosive plays in the first half with some great defensive stops when we needed them. We settled down following some sloppy play in the second half combined with a tenacious East squad, who made it a game late. But we made big plays when we needed it. We're excited to be 4-0 going into an important week."

Punchless Duluth East sank to 1-3 overall.

The Hunters, who sit atop the Northeast Red standings at 3-0, will play host to North Branch (3-1, 2-0) on Friday night at Marv Heikkinen Field on the beautiful Duluth Denfeld High campus.
