For the 21st year, the Lake Superior College Dental Hygiene Clinic will provide children free dental service on Friday, February 7 as part of the “Give Kids A Smile” Campaign.

Faculty, students and staff will work with volunteer dentists, advanced dental therapists, hygienists and assistants to provide full-service dental care for the children in the Duluth/Superior and surrounding areas.

“Give Kids A Smile Day is the one time each year where we truly see what collaborative dental practice looks like while serving the needs of our community,” said Anna Sackette-Urness, Dean of Allied Health and Nursing at Lake Superior College.

There will be a total of 61 volunteers assisting with the event, made up of first and second-year LSC Dental Hygiene students and professionals from the community. Services provided include exams, cleanings, oral hygiene instruction, fluoride varnishes, x-rays, sealants, simple extractions, and fillings.

Spots are currently filled for Friday’s event with nearly 40 kids signed up for the day. The event runs from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

The “Give Kids a Smile” program is a statewide outreach effort coordinated by the Minnesota Dental Association whose members are committed to providing all children with dental care and improving access to care throughout Minnesota. Minnesota dentists have provided free care to 86,000 children and donated services valued at more than $27 million since 2003.

The Minnesota Dental Association is the voice of dentistry in Minnesota, representing practicing dentists. It is committed to the highest standards of oral health and access to care for all Minnesotans.
