PREP BOYS BASKETBALL NOTEBOOK

Heavily banged-up Hermantown is 0-3, including an 86-56 Lake Superior Conference home loss against Hibbing last Friday night.

“While we were fortunate enough to get one guy off our injured list, we added another last Friday,” said Hawks coach Andy Fenske. “In light of this, we were lucky to have freshman Corbin Petcoff step up on the offensive side against Hibbing. He led us with 15 points, six rebounds and a steal. We got off to a slow start and each time we'd start to close the gap we would end up digging ourselves a bigger hole.

Alex Schott led us on the defensive end, providing a spark in the second half with a few key stops and taking a charge. But it wasn't enough to get us over the hump and close the gap.”

Hermantown standout Landon Burg returned from injury to record seven points, three steals, two rebounds and an assist in 17 minutes of play.

“We hope we can get Landon back to his prime form again soon,” Fenske said.

The Hawks (0-3) will face nonconference Columbia Heights (0-2) in the Southside Showcase at Benilde-St. Margaret’s on Saturday afternoon.

They're a team that's in a similar boat to where we are, so it'll be interesting to see how things pan out Saturday evening,” Fenske said of Columbia Heights.
