BEAUMONT, Texas — Joshua Kulka threw six touchdown passes and the Albany Firebirds overwhelmed the Beaumont Renegades in an Arena Football One matchup Saturday afternoon.

Kulka was efficient and explosive throughout, completing 17 of 26 passes for 281 yards and one interception as Albany dictated the tempo from the opening possession. The Firebirds consistently stretched the field, piling up big plays against a Beaumont defense that struggled to slow the passing attack.

Tyrese Chambers led Albany’s receiving corps with six catches for 84 yards and three touchdowns, adding a rushing score. Darien Townsend added three touchdown receptions and 78 yards, while Isiah Scott chipped in four catches for 97 yards and a score as Albany’s offense produced touchdowns on multiple quick-strike drives.

Albany’s defense complemented the effort with timely takeaways. Drew Singleton recorded two interceptions and eight tackles, helping the Firebirds maintain control as Beaumont tried to rally.

Beaumont rotated quarterbacks but could not find sustained production. Carl Robinson completed 14 of 23 passes for 46 yards with two interceptions and added a 53-yard rushing touchdown. Andrew McBride threw for 45 yards and two touchdowns in limited action.

Jerrime Neal provided one of the few bright spots for Beaumont with five receptions for 20 yards and a touchdown, while the Renegades’ offense struggled to generate consistent downfield threats.

Defensively, Beaumont was active but ineffective in slowing Albany’s pace. Trey Taylor recorded an interception, and multiple defenders — including Kameron Pruitt, Esaias Gandy and Keewan Alfred — led a balanced tackling effort, but the unit could not contain Albany’s multi-option passing game.

Albany improved to 2-0, while Beaumont fell to 0-2.

Howie: Duluth needs summer more than ever

Duluth residents simply need this summer emotionally. They need concerts at Bayfront and families along the Lakewalk. They need baseball games, festivals and tourists asking directions. They need reminders that life cannot become an endless cycle of bills, politics, inflation, anxiety and survival.
