Minnesota Power and SWL&P crews hurricane power restoration update

Submitted. Minnesota Power

Amy Rutledge, Director, Corporate Communications at ALLETE | Minnesota Power, with an update on Minnesota Power and Superior Water Light and Power crews assisting in the power restoration in Florida after Hurricane Milton:

"We have 20 lineworkers and 7 support staff working in the Bay area.

We are assisting Tampa Bay Electric which has about 300K customers out of power.

We are among 6,000 crews who’ve been brought in to assist TBE with power restoration.

Our crews arrived late Friday night and have been hitting it hard over the weekend, working 16-hour days.

Biggest challenge is all the trees and vegetation the storm took down in residents’ backyards. Those have to be removed before our crews can access power lines and get the power back on.

Our crews tell us, residents have been very appreciative of their efforts.

You can check out all the great comments on our MP and SWLP Facebook sites from both folks here at home and in Florida."

Howie: AF1 CEO Kurz bullish about Duluth franchise, DECC Arena

Jerry Kurz on the Monsters: “Very strong franchise. We’re very selective. I get calls every week from people who want to join. But we have to be sure they’re giving something back to the community. Jake (Lambert, owner) and Steve (Walters, general manager and minority owner) want that."

Howie: The city budget they don't want you to understand

Local Government Aid alone covers nearly $35 million, about one-third of the budget. It’s the difference between black ink and red. Lose even 5 percent of that aid, and Duluth’s “balanced” budget implodes by millions. That’s not financial strength — that’s dependence disguised as stability.
