Bulldogs frosh Kleber, Plante selected in 2nd round of NHL Draft

A pair of incoming Bulldogs men's hockey elites were selected in the second-round of the 2024 National Hockey League Entry Draft on Saturday in Las Vegas.

Adam Kleber, a 6-5 defenseman from Chaska, was taken 42nd overall by the Buffalo Sabres, while Max Plante, a 5-11 forward and native of Hermantown, was selected 47th by the Detroit Red Wings.

They will join incoming Minnesota Duluth freshman goalie Adam Gajan, who the Chicago Blackhawks also drafted with the 35th overall pick in the second round of the 2023 NHL Entry Draft.

The Bulldogs will have 11 NHL draft picks on their roster for the upcoming season, including five in the freshmen class.

Championship opportunities are temporary, particularly now. Max Plante will not remain at UMD forever. Neither will Zam Plante, Shaugabay or Hanson. Professional hockey will come calling, and the roster eventually will be pulled apart by the realities of the sport.
