Boys Basketball – at Princeton, 6:30 p.m. Game Notes: The Hawks (1-4) are looking for a strong response to a 80-63 loss against nonconference Mankato West in the Southside Showcase at Benilde-St. Margaret's High School last Saturday afternoon. Senior forward Abe Soumis had a team-high 20 points for the Hawks, who trailed 45-31 at the half. Princeton (0-3) is coming off a 101-65 road loss to Rocori.

Girls Basketball -- at North Branch, 7 p.m. Game Notes: The Hawks (1-4) lost to Duluth Marshall 96-66 last Saturday at LSC Day in Cloquet. Hermantown has four games remaining in 2023, including home games against Grand Rapids on Friday, Mesabi East Dec. 22 and Bloomington Kennedy Dec. 26. The Hawks are led by senior Bailey Zagelmeyer, juniors Mikayla Sweeney and Olivia Johnson and sophomore sensations Bailey Hermanson and Aurora Decker.

Boys Hockey -- host Duluth Marshall, 7 p.m. Game Notes: The Class 1A/No. 1-ranked Hawks (2-0-1) blitzed 2A Centennial 5-0 last Saturday at Hermantown Arena, as senior goaltender Dane Callaway stopped 25 shots and Andrew Johnson Jr. scored his first two varsity goals. Callaway has continued to shine as one of Minnesota's top goaltenders, while recording an eye-blistering 1.27 goals-against average and .959 saves percentage in three games against elite Class 2A competition. Junior forward River Freeman is also off to a strong start with a team-high three goals and four points. Sophomore forward and team scoring leader AJ Francisco (five points, including a goal) is a rising star.

Girls Hockey – at Hibbing, 7 p.m. Game Notes: The Mirage (3-5-1) are hoping to snap a two-game home losing streak (2-1 vs. Grand Rapids-Greenway and 8-0 against Andover last Saturday at Hermantown Arena). P-H is led by senior forward Izy Fairchild and junior forward Jane Eckstrom (team-high eight points each). Goaltending is also a major strength, with junior Neelah McLeod (2.25 goals-against) and sophomore Suri Langley (2.34 goals-against) alternating starts.

FRIDAY

Girls Hockey – host Delano, 7 p.m. Games Notes: Delano is 7-4-0 overall.

Girls Basketball -- host Grand Rapids, 7:15 p.m.

SATURDAY

Girls Hockey -- at South St. Paul, 1 p.m. Game Notes: South St. Paul (4-4-0) is led by junior defenseman and team scoring leader Lily Pachl (five goals, 12 points), a Harvard commit, and junior forward Bailey Vesper (nine points).

Boys Hockey – host Mahtomedi, 1 p.m. Game Notes: Defending Minnesota 1A state champion is 2-4 overall, but has played one of state's most difficult schedules, including games against 2A St. Thomas Academy (L 4-1 last Saturday) and on the road against 1A powers Warroad (L 7-6) and East Grand Forks (L 5-2). Mahtomedi will face 2A Hill-Murray on Tuesday.
