Overnight closures scheduled for I-35 as part of the Twin Ports Interchange project

Drivers are advised to stay alert, watch for merging traffic, and exercise caution while adjusting to the new traffic patterns.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation has planned nighttime closures of I-35 for the next week to accommodate the installation of overhead signs, which are part of the Twin Ports Interchange project.

On Monday, Aug. 19, southbound I-35 from 5th Avenue West to 27th Avenue West will be closed from 8 p.m. until 5 a.m. the following day. Detours will be in place via 5th Avenue West and Superior Street to 27th Avenue West.

On Tuesday, Aug. 20, updates to northbound I-35 signs will be carried out on the bridges at 40th Avenue West, 27th Avenue West, and the Highway 53 overpass, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. the next day. Traffic will be rerouted through the exit and entrance ramps at each bridge.

On Wednesday, Aug. 21, southbound I-35 from 26th Avenue East to 5th Avenue West will be closed from 8 p.m. until 5 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 22. Detours will direct traffic along London Road and Superior Street from 26th Avenue East to 5th Avenue West.

On Thursday, Aug. 22, southbound I-35 from 5th Avenue West to 27th Avenue West will again be closed from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 23. The detour will take motorists via 5th Avenue West and Superior Street to 27th Avenue West.

Additionally, the Blatnik Bridge will be fully closed from 6 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 19, until 6 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 20. Upon reopening, new bypass connections from I-535 to both northbound and southbound I-35 will become operational. Drivers are advised to stay alert, watch for merging traffic, and exercise caution while adjusting to the new traffic patterns.
