The Minnesota Vikings on Friday announced two additions to the 2024 coaching staff, naming Shaun Sarrett assistant offensive line coach and Henry Schneider IV assistant to the head coach.
Sarrett spent the past three seasons (2021-23) as the Los Angeles Chargers assistant offensive line coach. He brings two decades of coaching experience to Head Coach Kevin O'Connell's staff, spanning the high school, collegiate and professional ranks.
During his three seasons in Los Angeles, Sarrett helped the Chargers rank in the top three in the NFL in passing offense in back-to-back seasons (2021-22) and finish in the top 10 in total offense in each of those seasons. The Chargers concluded the 2021 season tied for second in passing yards per game (282.4) and fourth in total yards per game (390.2), and they ranked third in passing yards per game (269.6) and ninth in total yards per game (359.3) in 2022. The offensive line also contributed to Los Angeles ranking fifth in points per game (27.9) in 2021.
In his first season with the Chargers, Sarrett helped coach center Corey Linsley and develop rookie tackle Rashawn Slater, the 13th overall selection in the 2021 NFL Draft. Both linemen were named to The Associated Press' All-Pro Second Team and were voted to the Pro Bowl as starters, marking the first pair of Chargers offensive linemen to be named to the Pro Bowl since 2008. Slater was also tabbed to the Professional Football Writers of America's All-AFC and All-Rookie Teams.
Sarrett entered the NFL coaching ranks with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2012, spending nine seasons with the organization (2012-20), including serving as offensive line coach during his final two seasons in Pittsburgh. He began his coaching career at Streetsboro High School (Ohio) in 2004, working with both the offensive and defensive lines and guiding the team's strength and conditioning efforts. After a year at the prep level, Sarrett spent a season working as a defensive quality control coach at Marshall University (2005), before serving as an offensive graduate assistant for the Thundering Herd for two seasons (2006-07). He then went to Duke University as an offensive assistant/offensive quality control for four seasons (2008-11), overlapping with Vikings Special Teams Coordinator Matt Daniels, who was a defensive back for the Blue Devils in those seasons.
Schneider spent the past five seasons with the Las Vegas Raiders (2019-23) and adds eight years of NFL experience to O'Connell's staff. Schneider most recently served as the manager of coaching operations for the Raiders (2022-23), following one year as football operations coordinator (2021) and two years as football operations assistant (2019-20). During his time in Las Vegas, Schneider assisted with aspects of the head coach's agenda, including day-to-day football operations and coaching administrative needs.
Prior to joining the Raiders, Schneider spent two seasons with the Seattle Seahawks as a football operations/equipment intern in 2016 and 2018. In between seasons with the Seahawks, Schneider served as a football operations staff assistant with the Miami Dolphins in 2017.
Schneider began his professional career as an operations intern with the National Football Foundation in Irving, Texas, after earning his bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Alabama, where he worked four seasons (2012-15) as a student manager for the football program under Nick Saban.
