Update to Friday's Incident

12:45 p.m., May 28, 2024 UPDATE:
The Duluth Police Department is releasing the name of the victim involved in Friday’s incident. 81-year-old Bradley French is in stable condition after sustaining significant head injuries. French and Tolbert were not known to each other.

Update: Male Arrested for Pending Attempted 1st Degree Murder Charges

12:15 p.m., May 24, 2024 UPDATE:
43-year-old Lance Tolbert, Duluth, was lodged at the St. Louis County Jail for pending charges of Attempted 1st Degree Murder. The 81-year-old victim is continuing to receive treatment at a local hospital for significant head injuries. His condition is currently unknown.

Duluth Police Respond to Medical Assault

9:45 a.m., May 24, 2024 ORIGINAL:
At approximately 8:50 a.m., Duluth Police responded to the 1600 block of Woodland Ave for a report of a medical call as a result of an assault. Upon arrival, Officers located a victim, an 81-year-old male, in the bathroom with significant head injuries. The victim was transported to a local hospital, and his condition is currently unknown.

The suspect, a 43-year-old male, fled the scene on foot. Officers quickly set up a perimeter, and the male was located in the area of Wallace Avenue and 7th Street. He was detained without incident.

Currently, it is unknown if the victim and the suspect were known to each other, or what prompted the assault.

No further information will be released at this time as this is an active and ongoing investigation.
