My close personal friend, legendary Hermantown boys hockey coach Patrick Andrews, on his team's strong performance in a summer tournament in Proctor last weekend – "We had a great weekend. The boys competed really hard, which is all we can ask for in a summer scrimmage weekend (Skors: Benilde-St. Margaret's 4, Hawks 2; Hawks 5, St Cloud Cathedral 2; Hawks 2, Mahtomedi 0). The summer scrimmage weekend provided a great conclusion to our summer workouts and an exciting glimpse into the season ahead. Seniors River Freeman and Henry Peterson both stood out with their play and leadership. We have a very good group of returners complimented by a very skilled group of sophomores coming up from bantams. If the summer tournament is any indication, we have a very exciting season ahead of us this winter."

VIKINGS NOTEBOOK

For the second time in three days, the Vikings have added to their defensive backs room.

Minnesota on Wednesday signed veteran cornerback Fabian Moreau, who is listed at 6-foot and 204 pounds.

To make room for Moreau, the Vikings waived linebacker Abraham Beauplan.

Moreau brings 106 games of experience, including 56 starts, to Minnesota. He has previously played for Washington (2017-20), Atlanta (2021), the New York Giants (2022) and Denver (2023).

Moreau entered the NFL as a third-round pick (81st overall) in 2017 after playing college football at UCLA, where he overlapped with former Vikings linebackers Anthony Barr and Eric Kendricks.

Unfortunately, the new currency of leadership is visibility. You’re judged not by budgets balanced or streets repaired, but by how many times your face appears on a feed. The ribbon-cutting is no longer the celebration of work done; it is the work.
