Saturdays at the Eco3 Urban Farm

The Eco3 Urban Farm on the campus of Lake Superior College – a new summer event series – is kicking off Saturday.

Every Saturday from June through September, the Urban Farm will be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. People of all ages, from near or far, are invited to come to the farm and enjoy some hands-on activities in the fresh air.

Visitors do not need to register in advance. Visitors can simply show up, with a group or as an individual, to enjoy a day on the farm. From 10:00 am to 1:00 pm, visitors can help out with farm projects, from planting to building. From 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm, there will be hands-on family activities provided by Ecolibrium3 or partner agencies like the Northern Expressions Arts Collective. Families are especially encouraged to attend.

Visitors are encouraged to wear closed-toed shoes, bring water and sunscreen, and bring lunch or snacks when they come to Saturdays at the Farm.

The Eco3 Urban Farm is a project of Ecolibrium3, a nonprofit organization based in Lincoln Park. Lake Superior College leases the site for all these activities, known as the Eco3 Urban Farm, to Ecolibrium3. While Ecolibrium3 runs farm operations and programs, LSC students have access to this functioning, sustainable growing environment for learning opportunities. In addition to growing produce, Ecolibrium3 can host educational events and programs.

The Eco3 Urban Farm is a community space built for learning and connecting. “Saturdays at the Farm will provide a fun way for us to meet people in our community,” says Bertossi. “We benefit from volunteers helping with projects like planting and weeding. But the best part of the program is getting to meet neighbors and make new friends.”

The first Saturday at the Farm is June 3. All summer long, until September 30, anyone is welcome to stop by for farm activities, any Saturday from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. To learn more about Saturdays at the Farm and other programs, visit www.ecolibrium3.org. – Press release
