Vikings sign quarterback Jordan Ta'amu

By Craig Peters

EAGAN, Minn. — The Vikings on Monday signed quarterback Jordan Ta'amu.

In order to make room for Ta'amu on the roster, the Vikings waived outside linebacker Curtis Weaver.

Ta'amu is joining Minnesota after starring for the D.C. Defenders of the XFL. He started 10 games for the Defenders on his way to winning XFL Offensive Player of the Year honors in 2023.

Ta'amu completed 143 of 229 passes (62.4 percent) for 1,894 yards and 14 touchdowns against three interceptions for D.C. He also showed his running ability with 67 carries for 298 yards and three touchdowns.

The passing yardage and touchdowns ranked third in the XFL this season.

Ta'amu first joined the NFL in 2019 as an undrafted free agent with the Houston Texans, but he has not played in a regular-season NFL game. He has spent time with the Chiefs, Lions, Commanders and Panthers.

The Hawaii native played two seasons of college football at Mississippi, completing 381 of 591 passes (64 percent) for 5,600 yards and 30 touchdowns against 12 interceptions. Ta'amu rushed 173 times for 507 yards and 10 touchdowns in those two seasons.
