A Duluth Mayor Roger Reinert Facebook post today: "This entire week we are focusing on city streets and infrastructure projects. One critical and high-priority infrastructure is the replacement of lead pipe service lines. Work this summer is taking place at various sites in our Fairmount, Lincoln Park, Chester Park, Downtown and hillside neighborhoods, as well as the London Road corridor. The City of Duluth’s Lead Removal Program is actively working to replace all private-side lead water service lines within a decade. This year the goal is to replace nearly 2,000 lead service lines. This is a significant uptick from last year when almost 700 were completed. Thanks to funding from the federal Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) and the Minnesota Public Facilities Authority this work is being done at no cost to property owners. Eligibility is based on the presence of lead or galvanized lines. Residents in affected areas are notified in advance, and construction is scheduled to minimize disruption. More information about the City’s lead line replacement program (including a link to the Minnesota Lead Inventory Tracking Tool!) can be found at: https://duluthmn.gov/pub.../lead-water-education/lead-water/"
